General Information:
As a professional association, the Association of Registrars of the Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC), founded in 1964, is mandated to promote and support research, policy studies and other investigations into the practice and management of matters related to our field. ARUCC represents approximately 182 member institutions from all regions of Canada. Members representing the universities, community colleges and CEGEPs include registrars, admission directors, student records managers, recruitment managers, student services managers and other colleagues in the areas of student advisement and counselling, student financial aid and student placement.

The Groningen Declaration Network is of keen interest to ARUCC’s members, many of whom are committed to the values of internationalization and student mobility. Canada is well positioned in terms of mindset, experience, and technology to establish a cohesive national model and to engage in international pilot projects that will support international student mobility. Canadian secondary and postsecondary institutions and related organizations have a long history of developing and implementing data-sharing partnerships, including technology-supported networks and hubs in nearly all provinces. The role of standards, such as EDI and PESC, is fundamental to the sustainability of these networks. Further, organizations, such as the Pan-Canadian Consortium on Admission and Transfer (PCCAT) and PESC Canada exist, along with others, to promote and support student mobility initiatives and standards across the country.

By signing the Groningen Declaration, ARUCC initiates Canada’s participation in this international endeavour and defines Canada’s relevance and presence in the issue of the international exchange of electronic student data. ARUCC will become an active member of the Network and will champion the engagement of Canadian institutions in the implementation of the Groningen Declaration by continuing to foster an ethos, culture and network that continues to remove impediments to data portability, and provides the foundation for student mobility. These benefits will be realized throughout the various educational jurisdictions across Canada as well as internationally.

ARUCC is an Associate Member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) and of the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CASE). ARUCC is a regional association of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO).
